- Ben Fennell received the Environmental Chemistry Graduate Award from the ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry, congrats!
- Dr. McKay received the Excellence in Review Award from Environmental Science & Technology
- Kai received a travel grant and was a winner of this year's graduate student department poster competition, congrats Kai!
- We hosted Mr. Juan Aguilar for a summer research education for teachers program as part of our NSF project on PFAS treatment
- Adam Odorisio graduated with his BS in Environmental Engineering (Whoop!) and is now working for Garver
- Kai presented his work at the spring ACS meeting in San Diego with renowned photochemist Silvio Canonica in attendance, way to go Kai!
- Ben Fennell has become a licensed PE in the state of Texas
- Ben Fennell received $4000 in scholarships – $2000 from the Texas Section AWWA and $2000 from Texas A&M, congrats Ben!

2020-2021
- Our NSF project has recently been highlighted in a few news sources, including Water Online and NSF.
- Our group has recently published two papers on DOM optical properties and photophysics. Read about our exciting results here and here!
- The Aquatic Chemistry group was awarded its first federal research grant from the US National Science Foundation! Read more about the project here.
- The lab is growing! We are fortunate to have two new undergraduate students join us this summer! Emilee Chrisman participated in the Launch Undergraduate Summer Research Program. Anya Allen (sophmore biochemistry major) joined this summer as well and will continue her studies of DOM fluorescence quenching this fall.
- Ben Fennell and Kai Cheng passed their Qualifying Examinations! Congrats Ben and Kai!
- Ben Fennell received a $10,000 scholarship from AWWA to support his research on PFAS. Congrats Ben!
2019-2020
